Every file type we can help with

Upload archives, PDF, Word, Excel and PowerPoint files for an initial check. Additional formats below have reference guides only; they are not currently accepted for recovery.

Extensions we accept: .zip · .rar · .7z · .pdf · .doc · .docx · .xls · .xlsx · .ppt · .pptx

Archives

Archive formats are containers. The encryption inside decides everything: legacy ZipCrypto is far weaker than modern AES, and 7z encrypts its file list as well as its contents.

PDF

PDF has two different passwords. One encrypts the document; the other only restricts printing and copying. Which one you are facing changes what is even possible.

Office

Microsoft Office has changed encryption several times since 1997. A file from 2003 and a file from 2013 are very different problems despite looking identical on screen.

Not sure which one you have?

The analyzer reads the file header and tells you the format, the encryption type and whether a forgotten password is realistically recoverable — all locally, before anything is submitted.
